NGC 1232

NGC 1232 is a spiral galaxy located approximately 60 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Eridanus. Its coordinates in the sky are right ascension 47.438° and declination -20.579°, and it is catalogued in the New General Catalogue (NGC).

The light reaching Earth from NGC 1232 today left the galaxy roughly 60 million years ago. What you see in telescope imagery is a snapshot of the galaxy as it appeared before most of Earth’s mammalian history.
