Terms of Service

Name A Galaxy (“we,” “us,” “the Registry”) operates a symbolic dedication registry for real galaxies catalogued by NASA, ESA, and other public-domain astronomical databases. When you claim a galaxy through our service, you receive:

• A permanent, searchable entry in our public registry tied to that galaxy’s real astronomical coordinates;
• An archival-grade printed certificate bearing your dedication, shipped to the address you provide;
• A digital copy of the certificate delivered by email.

We do not rename celestial objects. Only the International Astronomical Union has authority to officially name celestial bodies, and that authority is not for sale. Our dedications are symbolic, archival, and commemorative. Nothing we sell alters any official catalog maintained by any scientific body.

By placing an order, creating a dedication, or using any part of this site, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

You must be at least 18 years old, or the legal age of majority in your jurisdiction, to place an order.

Prices are listed in US dollars and are subject to change at any time prior to checkout. Placing an order is an offer to purchase; we reserve the right to accept or decline any order for any lawful reason, including suspected fraud, unavailable inventory, or shipping restrictions.

Once a galaxy is claimed, it is removed from the available pool and cannot be claimed by anyone else. Uniqueness is enforced in the registry.

Order total includes the dedication and the physical certificate. Shipping and any applicable sales tax are calculated at checkout.

We process payments through Stripe, Inc. Your payment information is handled by Stripe according to their security standards (PCI DSS Level 1); we do not store full payment card details on our servers.

Printed certificates are produced on demand by our print partner (Printful). Orders typically enter production within 2–5 business days of payment. Shipping times vary by destination; domestic (US) orders generally arrive within 7–10 business days, international orders within 14–21 business days.

We ship worldwide. You are responsible for providing an accurate, complete shipping address. We are not liable for orders shipped to an incorrect address that you provided. Customs duties or import taxes, where applicable, are the buyer’s responsibility.

Once your order ships, you will receive a tracking number by email.

Each certificate is custom-printed to your dedication and cannot be resold. We do not accept returns of correctly-printed custom items.

We will refund your order in full if any of the following apply:

• Your certificate arrives damaged (provide a photo within 14 days of delivery);
• We printed something different from what you ordered (wrong dedication, wrong galaxy, wrong address);
• Your order was never shipped within 30 days of payment and you request cancellation.

We will not refund orders because you changed your mind about the dedication, because the recipient didn’t like the gift, because you spelled the dedication wrong and approved it anyway, or because you no longer want the galaxy.

To request a refund, email support@nameagalaxy.io with your order number and a description of the issue. Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method within 7 business days.

You are responsible for the dedication text you submit. You agree not to submit text that is:

• Illegal, threatening, defamatory, or that infringes any third party’s rights;
• A real person’s name without their consent, used in a way likely to cause harm;
• Designed to impersonate or defraud anyone.

We reserve the right to refuse, cancel, or refund any order with a dedication that violates these rules. Our interpretation of what qualifies is final.

By submitting a dedication, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display it publicly within the Registry and on the printed certificate.

Astronomical catalog data (coordinates, distances, morphology) is sourced from public-domain databases including the NASA/IPAC Extragalactic Database (NED), the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), and the Messier, NGC, IC, and Arp catalogs. Telescope imagery is sourced from NASA, ESA, the Hubble Heritage Project, the James Webb Space Telescope mission, and the European Southern Observatory, all of whom make their imagery available in the public domain.

The Name A Galaxy site design, typography, visual identity, wordmark (“The Galactic Registry”), and the structure and presentation of the registry itself are our property. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute these elements without written permission.

Your dedication remains yours. Your certificate is yours to display, share, and photograph.

The service is provided “as is.” We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. We make no warranty regarding the uniqueness of your dedication relative to any other registry, database, or authority anywhere in the universe except our own.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to the service is limited to the amount you paid for the order that gave rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of laws principles. Any dispute arising out of these Terms will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Monterey County, California, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
