Barnard's Galaxy is a irregular galaxy located approximately 1.6 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Sagittarius. Its coordinates in the sky are right ascension 296.238° and declination -14.803°, and it is catalogued in the New General Catalogue (NGC).

The light reaching Earth from Barnard's Galaxy today left the galaxy roughly 1.6 million years ago. What you see in telescope imagery is a snapshot of the galaxy as it appeared before most of Earth’s mammalian history.
